Hey all,
New here. I’ve owned my C10 for 8yrs. Drove her for 5 before I got my Jeep. She’s been sitting for the last 3 and I’m finally trying to get her going.

Problem I’m facing now is she won’t stay on. Swapped out plugs and wires and rebuilt the TBI. She starts but won’t stay on if I don’t give it gas; doesn’t idle. Any suggestions to troubleshoot before I give up and take her to a professional?

Tbi has a maf right? I'd check and clean that and the change the fuel filter. My brother's Ford fusion did the same thing. Crank and run if you gave it gas but would die as soon as the gas was let up. His was a clogged up MAF and a bad purge valve. I'd lean towards yours being an airflow issue. If it cranks you have spark, and it's getting gas when you put the pedal down, so check for fuel. That leaves air. I'd look there first.

Could also be a bad fuel pump or plugged filters

Does it have fresh gas in it?

If you barely hold the throttle, does it stay running? If so, it probably just needs the base idle adjusted and clean the Idle Air Control solenoid. But if it's still the old gas, it can cause the issue you are having

Normally I'd say drive it to the gas station, fill up and drive around in varying conditions, find a few on ramps and give her a few rips. When empty fill up with fresh and change the fuel filter. Since it's sat for 3 years it probably isn't tagged so a splash of fresh gas and you sitting in the driveway letting it idle and varying the revs from time to time until the tank is empty then some fresh gas and maybe a filter.

While running it in the driveway it may help bring to light other issues it has obtained from sitting.;)

And welcome!

Thx all for the suggestions! it was the MAP sensor... replaced and good to go.

However I'll take everyone's comments and to some fine tuning to get her right.

Appreciate all the responses, I'll be back! I have a 65 next that I'm rebuilding.

Fill with fresh gas put in an addative of your choice and do an i-talion tune up and then drive it like you stole it for a tank.

Update:
So she’s a running and I can drive her a few miles to O’Reillys or gas station. But I’m concerned with the fact at times RPI gets up there before she shifts. At times, I jus take my foot off a little to let her.

Anything I can do to check and or adjust this?

Hoping I don’t need a new tranny?!

It's probably a 700R4... make sure the TV cable is properly adjusted: https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/700r4 cable adjustment instructions.pdf

I'd also change the fluid and filter before I drive it around if its been sitting for three years.
