1986 SUB C20: Updating/expanding instrument cluster and radio system

Hello Eveyone,

As we're most of the time riding with our travel trailer behind, I was missing some "crucial" information of my engine / transmission / truck's behavior. Therefore I want to add some additional gauges to give me the desired information.

But I want to keep the square as original as possible and try to avoid any severe cutting in the dashboard.

First Step:
I needed a tachometer instead of that ridiculous big Fuel fauge. So I bought from LMC Truck a second design tachometer with wiring harness / mounting bracket to replace it and a small fuel meter for the empty spot in the left corner in the dash. Installing took some time due to the fight with the speedo meter cable. But the final result is pleasing and looks as original equipment.
As my dash was completely opened, I took the chance to replace all bulbs with LED bulbs and replace the 3-speed gear indicator from the THM400 with the 4-speed gear indicator from the THM700R4.
A friend of mine is covering my cracked dash pad with nice brown leather, so once this is finished I can reinstall it.



Second Step:
I want to install additional gauges such as transmission oil temp and engine oil temp.. But as I mentioned I don't want to cut in the dashboard or changes the appearance of the dashboard dramatically. So let me know what's your favorite place for adding gauges. Under the dash ? On the dash ? A-pillar ? Or any other genious solution ? Personally I'm interested in putting them above the rear view mirror so I can keep the dash environment "clean"... So let me know how you installed them !

Well, if you don't have air conditioning, there is room to put 2 gauges where the AC vent would be. I like the 4 pod picture you posted above the mirror.
