I like that wheel. The diameter of the wheel is like I like them, thick, not skinny. I don't feel I have a good control on the steering when they are thin.

Another thing your post reminds,... I like to know I'm driving a truck. Sure, it's not a semi, but if you're familiar with those, they tend to have a fairly large steering wheel.

My power steering hasn't worked in three years. I'll fix it someday...

...my AC hasn't been functional since '95. Maybe I'll fix that someday as well

The sticky comes from sweat, skin oils, and acids in your skin that degrades the material over time.

In my case I liked the race look of the Grant wheel I got, and as it turned out the type of wheel I got actually placed the wheel up closer to me. It reminded me of how the NASCAR wheels are, practically up against the chest. What that setup does is reduces arm fatigue. Those guys are driving at 180 mph. for four hours. If their arms were out in front of them like in our squares they wouldn't be able to move their arms after awhile and they would loose control over the car.

I found that since I have so much physical problems with my spinal degeneration that having the wheel up close to me was actually helping me drive, for a while at least. I'm good for about twenty minutes and then I have to get home.

Up close...good. Out in front of me...bad. I can't hold my arms up out in front of me for a few seconds.

Is that a factory tach? Where did it come from? It fits in with the rest of the gauges.

I've never fully bought into that theory. I've had them in very nice condition when they go into storage, then a couple years later after being exposed to heat and no ventilation, they are sticky and slimy.

I agree totally. I think the pre '95 GMT 400 pickups are the most comfortable for me to drive. Still have a "normal length" steering column, but have more leg room and a better seat than the squares. Squares are still pretty good though!

It's too skinny, it's too big around, it hits my gut, I can't get in or out of the truck...lol... I'll admit, it sucks on long trips because of it being skinny and no padding, but one just soldiers on. If the manual steering gear ever goes south and I have to install power steering, the Grant will go on in its place. That old Grant was in my '56, then in Mean Green, and has easily 200k of driving on its leather wrap.

I didn't hate the original wheel as much as I wanted something different. This matches the color scheme I'm working on and it's extremely comfortable. I used a 1" spacer to bring it closer to me also.

I've always liked the aftermarket gauges in the dash of these trucks! I feel like the engineers created the panel just for the future occasion. Lol I still have to add a few gauges. Eventually i'm going to have an Autometer speedo in place of the factory one, and i'm going to move the small fuel gauge into the factory gauge location and then like where you placed your oil and water in the upper right vent hole- that's where my fuel pressure and vacuum gauges are going to go. But i'm eventually going to redo and make a panel cover out of brushed aluminum to cover the factory dash bezel and tie it all together.
