02 Cluster in a 73 C10

I have a pretty beatup bezel if you want one to practice on, I think thats badass I have always wondered myself on what it would take to wire in newer gauges, might be able to pull alot of info from the OBD port, fuel gauge should be the same ohms, please keep us updated on progress
unfortunately 02 would be the final year of it being remotely easy. Once 03 rolled around for class 2 data bus, subsequently 07 with CANBUS, The amount of work to properly utilize a cluster was increased immensely because of the built in assumption it will communicate with various modules and relay to other modules when its the data pathway. im sure there would be a lot of work to get controls or warning lights to work in the traditional way. the reason for the changing eliminated a LOT of wiring needed to convey the same or more information and to allow scan tool diagnostics and the ability to program modules/update, etc.

If someone has done it with 03+ or some company made a module set, I commend their dedication. Im not a huge nut for wiring / its not my comfort zone so id never step near a project like that


hopefully considering trucks were made bare bones for fleet options that gm kept the interconnectivity to a minimum.

If you were to attempt this on my 99 buicks cluster, rest in peace. 97 buick phased class 2 into the flagship(park avenue), 98 the century, and 2000 the lesabre. and if a single module wasnt present it would screw up everything in the car because they rely on eachother for relaying information and processing as a group of computers rather than individual computers with wiring to every sensor to eachother and to displays(IP).

Dont ask why I know all this, I watched a lot of boring technical information researching for my park avenue on some repairs. Curse of a brain thats an information sponge LOL

Fun fact, buick eliminated over 10 pounds of wiring from Park Avenue just from 99 to 2000 with mid generation improvements and streamlined pathways.

Once all cars in the US switched to CANBUS it became a lot easier to make universal tools or learning of how to work with electrical systems because it wasnt just a GM only thing(Like class 2) but something all auto makers phased in and has a similar roots kind of understanding.

I wouldnt be suprised if dakota digital is able to make the newer cluster work, maybe give them a call

getting the gauges to work shouldn't be all that difficult, as for the "message center" thats a whole nother can of worms.

i would imagine it will be very time consuming, which is why I opted for a complete cluster from dakota digital, it was easy to install and has some cool features, I am very interested in this conversion because I would like to do it as well, maybe using a corvette cluster

I want to try and use these gauges in the future, its from a 75 pontiac so i am hoping they have the same values, but i could always use the matching sending units too.

I have one that I can cut up. This is the wire harness from under the dash of the donor Silverado. I'll be tracing wires from the gauge cluster to where they may go.

Well, I gave upon trying to put the Silverado cluster in the 73 bezel. Just couldn't get it pictured right in my head on how it should look.
