The good news is you don’t have to pull the trans again :banghead:

Didn’t you just rebuild that rear end? What kind of posi unit is it?

I ****** with everything except the physical carrier internals. (Bearings, seals, gears, etc)

The great news is, the gears still appear to have good contact, so thus far, thats 2 wins for vince. A good trans and rear end build :33:

The traction device is the G80 Gov-lock.

After much beer/thinking, i think i will just weld my spiders together for now, take it easy until the new traction device arrives.

The new AC Delco Dextron VI is clear and is backwards compatible with Dex III which was the fluid originally spec’d for that trans. It’s stupid expensive and synthetic, so I wouldn’t recommend for a square body TH350... but just because it’s clear, doesn’t mean it isn’t the right stuff.

Now, if it doesn’t say Dextron on the bottle, it is definitely not the right stuff

The manual trans with LSD in my 2005 Dodge SRT-4 took “ATF+4” with a special additive from the factory, so it is worth while to pay attention to what your specific application calls for.

At Walmart I had 2 choices superior or valvoline atf. Since I've not bought any in 25 years I went with the valvoline. I feel Kinda dumb for not doing my research first before I got it. Lol

Here's what I got and like you said it might work. I thought they had changed it in the last 25 years.

But it's probably for the newer trans that are 6,8 and 10 speeds. Or whatever. My new camaro is a 6 speed automatic. It doesn't say Dextron on it though.

For sure NOT what you want. It should say Dextron, I think there up to like Dex IV ?? But any of them will work but you won't probably find lower than that. The ATF is chrysler...and might work in something else but I don't really like those universal type fluids.

@80BrownK10 & @Vbb199 So what is the proper stuff to run in an automatic 3 speed TH350 that has a 2,000 stall converter?

This would be very valuable information for me if any of you guys have experience with this stuff. I will be bolting up my 455 Olds with an adapter to the TH350. I want good stuff in it that won't surprise me later....

Any fluid that is a Dextrin/mecron 2,3,4 . It most likely will say sex/mex type IV. I buy Walmart supertec. There I think is two types they Sall I think both say ATF but one is that one you bought which is for the Chrysler family and the other "atf" is the Dex/mec IV fluid which is mostly for ford and GM. Foreign cars may fall into either of these fluids but I can't say for sure. I know there is an import Atf as well. I drive Toyota's. And almost none of them list the T4 spec but say will work in toyota. I think there is a castrol one that lists it but I don't trust that. I just buy my t4 at the dealer it's only like $6.50 a quart.

Short answer it it says Dextrin...any number your good. I think current or the last Dextron spec was 4 but that's an outdated fluid I think so it may have stopped there, but it may be 5 now?? But it's backwards compatible not that long ago it was Dextron 3

Good information to know!!! Thanks guys!

I burned up the original TH400 behind this 455 back in '07....talking with my car cruising friends/hot rodders they think it is because I did not have my kickdown wired up. This 455 & TH400 was in my 51 Ford truck, barely made it home from our wedding. Last time the truck ever moved on it's own.

I don't want the above issue with my TH350...

The issue is "51 ford truck"

Not the transmission

GM change to Dexron VI back in 2006, it is still red in color, and is compatible in all 3 and 4 speed automatic transmissions. It is also used in the 6 speed automatic transmissions as well as the Allison 5 and 6 speed. The late model 8,9, and 10 speed automatic transmissions use a completely different fluid
