Blown rear axle seal

Blew a seal on rear hub. Thought she could handle highway speeds after 33 years. Turns out not so good. Now I need to replace a seal and without even looking I can already see new bearings and seals for both sides. New brake shoes for the leaky side. If the axle is warped or pitted, new axles also.

Anyone know off the top of their heads which new ones are good. Can I swap out axles from a late model Tahoe/Yukon or something similar? Advice for bearings/seals, what works, what doesn't last. 87 Custom Deluxe 4X4 1/2 Ton. Thanks

It takes a lot of miles or stress for an axle shaft to be "bad". I'm sure you'll be fine on those, for seals and bearings just get timken or napa they'll last your life probably. I've had good luck with delco or napa brake parts.

It takes a lot of miles or stress for an axle shaft to be "bad". I'm sure you'll be fine on those, for seals and bearings just get timken or napa they'll last your life probably. I've had good luck with delco or napa brake parts.
Thanks Drifter. Lots of miles (200+K) and hard work (citrus/beef industry) she got. That was then, not now. Just recently started driving highways again 100 miles at 75MPH. I guess I'll find out Tuesday when I start digging into it.

While I'm at it looks like rear disc brake conversion is on the agenda. Anyone have good experience with Little Shop?

pinion nu6 may have bcked off become loose. it does happen.. it not a rare occurance.. happens al the time on some axle models more thn others thouh.. like the 70s truck ford 9" axles for example.. see it happen all the time on those, especially jacked up 4x4 ones where there are extra driveline alignment stress issues. an axle not from this style design of square body old open C channel frame is not gonna fit in pace directly, you will have to relocate shock and spring pack mounts brackets etc... you will need a torchj and welder and so on.. i dont know why how some ppl think that a totally different axle from a totally different vehicle design will just magically somehow fit and work directly... hmm...
just pull the pinion nut and replace the 5 dollar seal.. not that big of a deal..
be done in far less than an hour.
and use/put thread locker on the pinion nut threads.. good luck
