at 260, leaving it on BUT cooling it down.. you probably saved it. my v6 from late 90s sedans start automatic procedures to prevent engine damage at those temps and one of them is aluminum and the other is cast iron. id imagine a v8 with full synthetic, heavier, and low mileage(rebuild?), id say you are probably okay. definitely steamy, but probably okay.

Its kinda cool, the one engine will shut down 4 cylinders and use them to pump air (no ignition or fuel delivered) to help cool the engine and it will alternate which 4 cylinders keep operating to keep it running to cool the bank. makes sense when you think about it. and when moving, cylinders turning slowly and without any combustion cant be making that much heat, but would be pulling in impressive amounts of air, which would really bring those temps down

Thanks for message---I drove it today seems ok???--- Your engine with that cool down and shutting off some cylinders sounds like good idea?---someone was thinking when coming up with that,,

If you didn't blow the headgasket it's probably fine. Check your oil after driving it a bit. I'd also change the oil as soon as possible. Overheating the oil will cause it to break down faster.. even 10 degrees can make a big difference, although synthetic can handle it much better.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone, especially my Nephew, when they come into the house, and I hear their truck running in the driveway.

Do you have a bad battery, or are you just trying to seat the valves?

especially if it overheats for a long time change the oil. the engines i spoke of frantically say change oil after said event because the oil takes on the job of cooling MUCH more in this process
