I switched from the 6.2 to a gas motor. I cut wires out I didn't need. I used the glow plug wires for the HEI and electric choke. There were a few wires left that I just bent over and heat shrinked.

Now my volt meter is completely dead and the temp gauge stays at 240. The oil gauge and fuel gauge works and the clock works.

Can someone tell me what the color of the wire that goes to the volt gauge is and where it's connected to under the hood or have a decent wire diagram that you can actually see the color code for the wires? I know the temp gauge wire is dark green.

The wire diagrams from this site are terrible, when you go to enlarge them, they get blurry. Even with a magnifying glass they are hard to see when printed.

I thought volt gauge gets its voltage off of incoming voltage to the entire cluster itself.

Make sure temp sensor wire isn't damaged and shorting out to the body. That'll cause it to peg to 240 I believe.

I found out today that the resisters on the back of the gauges were open/no resistance. I replaced the volt gauge with one that I had and it works now. The oil pressure gauge was reading low, so I switched the resister and it now reads at 40. The temp gauge is open, no resistance but I didn't have one to replace it. The fuel gauge sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Does anyone have a source to buy these resisters for the different gauges?

I pulled out 4 of the gauges I had put back for spares. Out of the 4 resistors on them only 2 of them were good.

These resistors are valued originally at 90 ohms. The 2 good ones I have measure 87 ohms. I don't believe the colors on the back have anything to do with the resistance value.

Still would like to have some extras.

Surely you have an electronics store nearby and you could solder them in ?

These have small speed nuts that hold them on.

What about soldering the resistors into some electrical connectors with the holes in them and bolting them on

I have the temp gauge working at the moment. Switched the resister, and took the sending unit out( used sealer on it and removed it) and now has a good ground. Might have to cut the original connector off at the sender unit and put a different one on (connection issues).

Now to tackle the fuel gauge.
