Battery has worked just fine all year and it turns over nice and fast. 12.9 volts to it. Also it cut out abruptly when this occurred. I tried hitting the key a second time right after and I saw the buckle up light come on very dimly and fizzle out. Then nothing at all

Just keep in mind voltage and amperes are two different animals. Your battery may be good, and even it's not it could show proper voltage when it's the cranking amps that it's lacking. You'll know once you tackle the other stuff. If it were me I'd still take it out and have it load tested since you're going to the parts store anyhow. But that's just me, I don't like making extra trips to the parts store if I can avoid it.

Sorry to keep posting, but just checked battery voltage with key on and I'm only getting like 1.6 volts.. key off its at 12.9?
Maybe it is battery after all (Walmart special)?

Worth a check at the store. You may be coming home with a fresh battery

Problem solved!! It WAS battery after all.. I just didn't expect it to be so abruptly toast. Wouldn't be surprised if that was the culprit of my intermittent click as well. Thanks for the help everyone!

Had a battery issue with my Audi... drove to a shop, everything as usual. Five minutes later when I wanted to start the engine: dead. Not even any lights at the dashboard. Seems to be a feature of the new batteries.
