What are some of the first upgrades that would benefit me most in terms of performance?

Truck runs just fine. But is mostly stock I presume, just wondering what I could update to help improve performance. Here are a few pictures under the hood, nothing pretty.

If you are sure the tune up items(ignition parts, timing, carb adjustment, etc) are on point... many free horsepowers and torques live there. Plus, if you’re new to this stuff, it’s a good way to learn. Not only that, when you start changing things that’ll modify A/F ratio, combustion timing, etc. you’ll need to make small adjustments along the way.

Here’s a list not necessarily in order of dollars to hp, but simple to more difficult:

Long tube headers, crossover, straight through mufflers

Intake Manifold

Carburetor (or fuel injection/timing control)

Cam

Heads

Gear ratio

If you get to that point, you’ll probably know where to go next.

Porting the stock manifolds and a straight thru muffler would also work and you don't have to build a new exhaust system. I would use headers when I made a lot of changes to the engine and it moves more air. It always depends how much $$$$$ you are willing to spend.
As Frankenchevy said first adjust everything you have on spot and see how you like it.
