Not sure about 'cheaper' but Edelbrock makes an add on pump setup (PN 36031) that goes between the mechanical pump and the new FI unit....and its adjustable from 30 - 90 psi. Whole reason was to be able to use the stock setup without replacing tanks or the switch solenoid.

They're about $400 from Summit. I have a new in the box unit much cheaper for sale.

That is the Sump pump that I have on my 1976 with an Edelbrock E-Street EFI 3600. The only problem with this setup that I see is there is no way to run a line back to the Fuel Tank as the instructions say. Mine tends to leak on warm days out of the bottom. I am going to change to an electric fuel pump and locate it right after the tank switch.

I heard alot of good about it - I sold mine and the guy who bought it had 3 others. I preferred the OE-esque dual tanks / dual pumps approach.....I like redundancy. If one fails, I'm still moving. :)

I guess I'm gathering here, this EP381 will work in a 88-91 gas tank and sending unit correct?

I'm in process of setting up holley efi on my k5's 502. I need 60 lbs of pressure, and what I'm seeing is, the 381 makes max 108 lbs.

I also read about the walbro 340 that appears to go right in the sending unit as well.

Thoughts?

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I'm headed to the junkyard tomorrow and would like to get some parts. There is an 89 CK1500 at the yard and a bunch of vortec trucks.

Can I take the sender, pump, etc. from the CK and use it as a primer pump to my externally mounted walbro? Can I take a pump from a vortec truck and put it on the CK sender?

Yeah, I've got that from other reading. I kinda want to keep the TBI pump in there. I am not happy with the standalone harness I built I'm considering swapping to a carb and the TBI pressure would be in the same pressure range. Would an 89 junkyard sender drop in to my tank and seal correctly?

I've also been confused what folks mean by the 87 tank. I like the side tank on my truck. Is it the 87 R10 pickup on rockauto?

@LateOnTheBrakes

Nobody answered me (at the time) so I took a shot in the dark on my own and used the acdelco EP381 in my 87-91 fuel sending unit and matched tank.

Works just fine.
The goal however is not to be a cheap ass and drive around with 1/8 of a tank all the time. Gas has to be somewhat full to keep the pump cool.

Thanks. What is the 88-91 tank you are talking about? The 89 suburban? Did your sending unit work? I think I'm going to pick up the junkyard one because it is cheap.

My "k5ton" is a 91.
I just used a sending unit for it.

The 1989 suburban's 41 gallon tank wouldn't fit in the k5ton, but I did just use the sending unit, it appeared to be recently replaced.

@LateOnTheBrakes , if it’s for your pickup, you want a 20 gallon saddle tank from an 87 pickup. A burb/blazer tank sits between the frame rails and won’t fit a pickup directly. 87 is a SquareBody and tbi, hence has an in tank pump and is internally baffled. An 88+ pickup is not a SquareBody.

Came across this thread while researching LT swaps for my '77 C10. I previously did an LS3 swap but got the itch to do something different. Previously I was using a 87 hanger and tank and on the hanger I had compression fittings to convert them to AN. I was always weary about the compression fittings since they're on the top of the tank where I can't see them. I don't think they leaked but when I had the tank out for inspection during my L86 swap, I decided to install one of the Quantum drop-in hangers with AN fittings already on it. I'll be running n/a with E85 for the time being so their 340lph pump seemed perfect.
