PTO winch off a NP205 or Sm465.. has anyone done this?

This concept blows my mind and I Just learned its common in off roading. Anyone here know HOW to do this or what I should look into for info?

I know it can be done. My uncle runs a hydraulic winch with a PTO on the SM465 on his '75 K20 and I want to do the same on my '80 K25. I'll have to pick his brain about it next time I talk to him. He is a retired mechanic and knows his stuff.

You need the PTO unit that bolts up to the side of the transmission. I don't know if the SM465 is like the SM420, where you set the gear clearances by varying thickness gaskets. I know a guy with a '65 K10 that has a PTO gear-driven winch. If he gets into trouble he can hook up the winch to an anchor point, engage the PTO, put it into Granny Low/4-Lo and walk the truck out of trouble. I always thought you couldn't engage the forward gears while the PTO was engaged, but he does it with his truck.
