Can't separate SM465 adapter from NP205 TCase

Hi all, Tcase seems to be stuck to the coupler inside the adapter? Need some help on splitting the two for a rebuild.

The coupler must be badly galled. If you can get in there and grind a couple little notches in the end of it, you could probably bust the coupler right off of there with a good air chisel.

Almost looks like the 205's input shaft is coming out.

I thought it looked like it had slid real far into the coupler as well. Figured it was an optical illusion though.

I think you're right. I wound up threading a bolt and nut against the tcase. It popped the seal out on the adapter, but now I can see the coupler lol. Thank you!

The bearing creeping out is normal. That snap ring on the bearing holds it in position but the adapter must be in place to do so, the ring is sandwiched between the case and adapter.

Btw, if the input shaft comes out too far it’ll dump needle bearings. Put a bolt with a washer in one of the adapter bolt holes to hold the bearing in place.

Coupler on there tougher than a son of a gun, think I'll get me a puller set tomorrow. I got a bearing puller in there right now because there's a convenient retainer groove on the inside of the coupler, but it's not even close to enough force.

Ah yes of course, and then him pulling on the adapter hard enough is pulling the whole assembly out. With the problem with the coupler, looks like he'll be replacing an input shaft anyways.

I think you'll end up having to replace the input shaft anyways, so it might not be worth the work or money to get the pieces apart, that coupler is supposed to easily slide.

It took an extraordinary amount of force. Used a bearing separator and 5 ton puller. The finding? Somehow the coupler is thicker tcase end. Like .27" compared to .25". Bought a new input shaft as a precaution, though it doesn't look too bad.
