Anyone ever put a 348-409 "W" motor in a squarebody?

I'd like to put one in my '65. Saw a couple cars with them at the car show and one of the guys said the internals are available because they still race these engines, you just need a block. He learned that when he took it to the machine shop to have it worked on.

A buddy of mine had a '62 half ton snb Chev 4x4 with a 348, it was pretty neat but he changed to a 283 instead. I think a rod bearing failed in the 348. I don't believe the truck originally came with the 348.

Probably came with a 283, 250 or a 292 being a 4x4. I can't recall the years for the various inline sixes, but I do know the 292 was available in '64. The one I have is a '66, and it's going in my '65. No 348 for me, going straight engine for this truck...lol...

They're Chevy's most distinctive looking engine. If I ever build something with exposed engine, that's what it'll be.
If you're going to hide it under a hood, there's no reason to mess with 'em. They don't make great power and rods are prone to coming from together.
But they look cool!
