You're a better man than I Jack. I just couldn't put another 6 back in it no matter how cheap and easy it would have been. I woulda dropped a 350 or 454 in it.

Yeah that clutch is fresh. 3-Speeds and 4-Speeds are so easy to remove and install. The HD4-Speeds, not so much.

Back when I was rebuilding my 3 Speed with BW-Overdrive, I was under that truck so many times in a couple week time frame that I got good at it too. Raise the truck, drop the cross member, drop the driveshaft, get the trans-jack under the trans, loosen the bolts and disconnect the shift rods, for the overdrive stuff disconnect the cable and electrical connection, and slide it back. I have a regular 3-speed, too, so I was a swapping fool. I had do it a few times because the first rebuild didn't take, there was a thrust washer that was wrong, and some synchros that didn't jive well. Out with the rebuild, in with the old 3-speed.

I'm degreasing the new motor.

I've decided not to go ahead with hotrodding this one even though I got the parts.
You must be registered for see images attach

I'd weather rebuild the original and go all the way with it.

Also, I found that my 194 head needs some serious machine work before I can reuse it (a piece of the melted piston damaged the exhaust valve on cylinder No. 6)

For now, I'm going to reseal it, paint it, and drop it in.

I got the engine power washed and its basically ready for paint.

Also, I spruced up the engine bay a bit with some spray cans.

I also got to work resealing the engine and found that the rod bearing for cylinder No. 5 was just the slightest bit loose (maybe 0.005 inches of play). I never heard it knocking when I ran it, and it probably would be fine.

For ***** and giggles, though, I just ordered two standard size bearings for cylinders 5/6 (6 also felt like there was a very, very small amount of play).

I read 307 and thought v8, and then remembered the GMC 302, the big boy I6 for the old GMC trucks.
I was thinking small block as well when I saw 307. I just figured he was looking for one cause there cheap?

Be careful with your new install.Looks like you had an intake leak and I'd want to know why.Just looked at that pic again 1 piston a set of rings and a set of rod bearings and you'd be good. Real cheap 1 piston , 3 rings, and check the rod bearings.
I was wondering the same thing. Looks like it didn't get into the walls.

Jester, had the same thing happen to a 250 i6, and I just bought a piston and a set of rings, pulled the pan and head changed it out at work, and assembled it and drove home. Cheap and it worked for years. Just to let you know,as it worked for me.
