I have started the install and my first surprise is the flex plate doesn’t fit, ordered a new one yesterday. What else should I be prepared for?

FYI I had installed a 89 motor transmission and transfer case and later found the motor locked up I think water got into engine after it was pulled and the rear cam bearing has locked up so I put head gaskets on the motor I pulled out of my 86 and trying to get the 84 4x4 on the road.

If the engine is indeed an '86 model, it has the 1 piece rear main seal, thus a different crankshaft than the '84. I would make sure that the torque converter bolt attach points line up correctly to your new flexplate PRIOR to installing engine into vehicle

Well my new flex plate came in today, it’s just like the one I pulled off the 1989 the center hole is too small. The motor I’m putting in the 84 came out of a 86 might not be a 86 so I need a flex plate with a larger hole in the center can anyone help me? Should I repost this somewhere else? When did they changed the size of the flex plate?

I think I can answer my own question the 1985 flex plate has the larger hole than the 1986 just need to return it
