I put air in the spare this afternoon. Things would have gone badly if I'd gotten a flat.

I also sent the original spare with the split open tire to have the rim blasted and powder coated so I can put a good tire on it and hang it up under the bed with my new-to-me spare tire carrier. 35 years of wasting cargo space to store a spare tire is almost at an end.

Remember to check the pressure on your spares!

At least you have a spare lol. When they cut my truck down, they didn’t put the carrier on it. I don’t plan to put it back though, I hate the look. I eventually plan on a tonneau and just keeping the spare up front

The tale of my spare is a long and bitter one. But for now let's stick with my personal distaste for using cargo space to carry something that could be stored elsewhere. I makes zero sense to me to go to the lumber yard to pick up sheets of building materials and have to take the tire out, park it somewhere, load the truck, and then lift that honkin' thing back in (lifting it higher now, because of the materials) and having the filthy thing making black marks on my new whatever. Especially considering that we've needed it for a flat only once in the life of the truck. Also how ironic that I may own one of the last factory jacks in existence?

Everybody's situation is different. But for me and the way I use the truck, having that thing banging around back there, taking up space and fugging things up is just painful.

I definitely understand that. My truck will rarely see real work, I have a Duramax for that. I do have the factory jack and tools still under the hood though!

I still have the factory jack and tools under the hood of my 75K20. However they are a little loose and rattle around. Been gonna fix that for awhile..... Yesterday , I repaired my Grandson's PW and PL on his 79K10. It's gonna be a temporary fix, the wires are all very brittle thru the connection into the door. Got them all together and everything worked, for now. Need to get the relay setup and new harness from @gmachinz to do it right!

What does the pull out spare look like(the mechanism, not the wheel) and was it full size? wherw was it mounted?
What do the factory tools look like?

The standard carrier goes under the frame at the back of the bed, in front of the rear bumper. It was for a full size factory wheel and tire.

The "slide-out" was similar except the carrier had a slider that would allow the operator to pull the spare out further while the tire stayed on the carrier. It probably made it a little easier to get the tire on and off the carrier. Especially if you were on your way out to a fancy dinner wearing your new tuxedo.

If you ordered a trailer hitch the spare wouldn't fit with the hitch there so it had to be mounted in the bed, upright in front of the left wheel tub. Not the slickest look, but more practical than just leaving it laying around. I'll try to grab some pics under the hood tomorrow so you can see the jack stuff.

I wasn't sure if those were before and after pictures or not. In which case I couldn't see anything different so I was going to take a SWAG and say trim rings. Who knew?
I thought trim rings too but looked at both pics on the post and both had trim rings . I thought it was going to be different between the two.

So that's your '78? Mine is a '78. I recently looked at a '79 Suburban for sale with original cloth, it was the same stuff as mine, but in the darker '79 shade of red. I'm really curious if the '80 is more like dots.

The TA stuff has a dot pattern that kinda makes up stripes. Mine is just plain fuzzy stripes.
I remember stuff like that from 80s era GM cars like buick and olds

Pulled the radiator out of my 82 diesel parts truck and installed it in my CUCV since the radiator in that split the last time I was plowing snow.

The CUCV only had a 3 core in it and this one is a 4 core so hopefully it will cool better. Used to overheat from time to time with the plow up, figured it was just from the plow blocking the airflow to the radiator.

Looks like it's in pretty good shape and fit perfectly, so hopefully it will get me through the rest of the winter. Really dont want to drop $300 on a new radiator right now.
