Picked it up today after motor and transmission swap and new suspension done. It wasn't too bad driving home with open headers but, I wouldn't wanna do it all the time. Took a small video of the ride home. You can't hear it real good unless I step on it a little. As you know it's much louder taking off from a stop.

Not bad for a $300 truck.
No, no it's not! You don't find $300 trucks around here...not that I ever hear of unless you like know the person and they want to help you out or give you a deal.

Also, with the 454 I can't use my fan shroud. I need a slimmer one now. Do y'all know if they make them?

The fan is a lot closer than before. I don't know if y'all can tell in the pic it's dark.

Do you think it would be hard to modify mine?

Really happy with the way it sits now.

Never done a big block swap on a square, so I will yield to the experts amongst us, but have you ever considered an electric fan? That is what I would do

That did cross my mind. I'm gonna look into that. It ran about 185 on the way home and I sat at a couple of lights for a bit. I looked at temp gauge when I pulled in the driveway it was 185. It's about a 5 to 7 mile trip I'd guess. I got no plates or tags for it yet.

When I put the big block in my '82 I used the fan guard from the same year 250 inline 6 cylinder. Not really a shroud, just a top cover for the radiator. I still have the small block radiator installed. Probably will not work if you put in a larger radiator.

When I swapped the big block into my '84, the previously swapped in fans from a Buick Rendezvous still worked great.

Swapped in the new master cylinder and self bled the brakes with a Mt. Dew bottle. Worked awesome. Truck stops on a dime now. Got home then my phone started blowing up with msgs from FB marketplace. A couple hours later I toss a set of seats into my truck and head 6 miles down the road. The motor revs to the moon and won't shift, it does this sometimes when it's cold. I pull it down a gear and upshift and it slams into gear. I'm thinking "ok, it's low on fluid". I made my delivery while manually shifting the whole way but it won't go into 3rd. So I stop and grab a gallon, pull the dipstick and it breaks off in my hand. I was able to catch it before it went down the tube though. So now I have no idea how much is in the tranny. I just dump 2qts in and head home. Same thing won't shift. I pull over and dump in another quart, circle around a parking lot and same thing. Then it dons on me, the vacuum actuator on the transmission. I get under the truck and sure enough!

So now I start scrambling around the truck. I know I have hose in there somewhere. Found some that was a little too small for the actuator (why do they make the actuator nipple and the steel line different sizes? Stupid engineers) and it's 2ft long. Well since I broke my knife I didn't bring it with me but a plastic knife kinda works if you go real fast! Got it buttoned up and shifting right. Now I have to drain some fluid out of the tranny lol
