What would you pay for a nv4500 trans with use and wear, but functional when pulled

I dont know the rarity, but i know guys commonly swap this in to have that extra highway gear while also still having a Low gear. But the guy is asking for 500 and one of the gear has a "chip" out of it

if it's a GM one they go for $500 with everything. I'd offer him $350 with the broken gear if I comes with the bellhousing and shifter. Dodge NV4500s go for $1500-2k here

I am thinking of doing the 4500 swap, but thought the stock GM bellhousing that comes with the 4500 won't work with a squarebody.

I have no idea but Marcus says they are the same. I was just looking up prices on Marketplace.

Gm nv4500's just exist in my area.

Dodge nv4500's usually start at 1200 and go up.

I thought the 4500 had a hydraulic clutch or was that just certain years? A hydraulic clutch bellhousing would have to be different than a bellhousing with an squarebody style mechanical throwout bearing.

What makes the Dodge ones so much more expensive, are they better transmissions or just more in demand from Dodge owners? I thought that the GM and Dodge trannys were both pretty similar.

one of the two transmission's gear ranges are different if I'm not mistaken.

And some redneck lore indicates one of them is weaker than the other. I think the chevy nv4500 is more susceptible to some sort of failure than the other. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Generally the nv4500 is a favorite behind a Cummins... Which as you know is usually high valued.

I meant to say gm nv4500's don't exist.

Ahh I see. I have done the swaps in the later square bodies. They had the hydraulic setup in them. I assumed (incorrectly) you guys were worried about bolt Patterns. I think it’s 85+ trucks are already hydro.
Another alternative is to drill the nv4500 to accept your linkage bell housing from the sm465.

Early 90s chevys have a lower first gear. I think In 94 it goes higher. And dodge is the one with the nut that slips off and you lose OD.

I am also wanting to put mine in a 4x4 which I believe is supposed to have some clearance problems if using the stock 4500 bellhousing.

I really want to do this swap in the future, just having trouble getting facts on what stock parts will work without spending a bunch of cash on a Advance Adapters kit.
