I found this 1984 K30 Scottsdale sitting for 11 years in a field. I knew it was a special truck and eventually learned it has 105k original miles and I'm the third owner. I decided to revive it rather than part it out but knew I'd be taking on a lot to pass smog here in CA. Long story short, I have work many weekends and nights to get it to the point of passing and it's so close but it's missing one crucial part that I can't find ANYWHERE! The Early Fuel Evaporation Actuator, linkage, and butterfly valve that goes after the manifold. I have found only one valve that is similar even for sale and it's on ebay but its for 1979-1983 big blocks according to the ad. I am at a loss for what to do and need help! A history lesson on this type of component, if anyone has one laying around, anything! It doesn't even have to work, just needs to look the part... I have looked everywhere I can online and have come up empty. Thank you for your time.

Welcome. I'm assuming this is the part you're looking for GM 5234298 (ACDelco 214-506 or 214506; GM 05234298). It has a vacuum line that runs to it down on the manifold. I know my '80 C20 had the vacuum pod up by the valve cover and ran a rod to the butterfly on the manifold.

VALVE,W/ACTUATOR,E.F.E.
For: CK2,3(454) (1983-1984) (1984 - 1984).
For: P3(454) (1983-1984) (1984 - 1984).

My truck is an early production '85 which runs 1984 emissions (HD4). Federal emission standards changed 1/1/85 and 454's started running dual smog pumps. GM shows this part is still available. The second link below it's #41 on the image. Luckily, mine was still good. There is one on ebay right now for under $100.

I have all the emissions parts on my truck and was able to replace most where needed. I have a list of most part numbers. The last picture is my emissions routing. FYI, I have California emissions with an auto trans and EGR valve. Federal emissions did not have the EGR. My understanding, if you are missing the tag I have pictured, they will make you set it up for California emissions.

I have all the emissions equipment from an 84 or 85 C10 that I can sell you pretty cheap. It was a factory 305 w/ a 700r4. I also have the factory V-Belt set-up that is perfect w/ new alt and ac compressor.

I don't know if any of the parts are the same, but if they are, I'll start digging...

I get the same P/N as Craig. Although, for some reason, it isn't listed for 1984. But it does show for 83 and then 85 and up.

Thank you Craig, that's EXACTLY the info I needed. I was having so much trouble finding even a pic of what the "correct" one looked like. Many have the bracket mounted up at the manifold with the diaphragm and a linkage to the valve down at the bottom of the manifold. I don't know how I missed that one on ebay but had I been able to check this sooner it would have saved me. Last night a guy posted out of nowhere on CL all the smog stuff off his 1986 here in Paso, but he wouldn't part with just the valve (I figured) but he wouldn't even just sell me the manifolds, I had to get all of it for $300 but now I have an extra carb, manifold, air pump and misc. other stuff if anyone needs anything. I appreciate the offer BennyT but the 10 series is a little different and smaller diameter. I am working on exhaust tonight and going to get it to pass this weekend. First cruise to get tires today after a bit of work and sitting for 11 years; I can't believe how tight it is and shifts great. Speedo quit working after a few feet though. I'll have to check the cable. I will be posting again I'm sure when I get into the auto hubs on the Dana 60. I have an issue with the right one that I'll be diving into this weekend as well. Stoked I found a solid forum with guys that dig these trucks as much as I do.

I had a similar issue with the throttle kicker on the carburetor; it was the only piece missing on mine. I did a 9 hour round trip to Dinuba just get that piece. A guy had parted out a motor home. I explained to him no one buying the 454 would ever want that part except for someone with an 81 and up they were trying to smog.

My dad set up a shell corporation in Montana to own his vehicles. He lives in Pennsylvania and they have emissions and high tax and registration fees, apparently. In Montana there is no testing, and you can get a permanent plate for vehicles older than 10 years.

Could be an option...

There are so few vehicles from the 80s and beyond anymore, it doesn't harm anything.

I know this is an old thread, but I have an 83 C20 and have a similar issue with my 454 EFE "heat riser" valve. I am in Arizona and must pass emissions every year. The connection between the EFE valve and the metal tube going up to the TVS on the intake manifold is broken. If if use the illustrated parts graphic for the 85-86 trucks, there appears to be a part between the tube and the valve which connects the two parts. That connection is separated, and all I see is the end of the tube and a piece of heat resistant wrap on the end of the valve. Does anyone know the part number for the connector and where I might find one? Or, does anyone have a suggestion on how to gently connect the two to get through emissions.
Thanks.

@desertdog1 If you are referring to the connection on the EFE valve I posted in #2, mine just has a rubber tube that connects the two. If you're referring to the top end, I'll have to go out an take a look. FYI my truck is an early '85 and runs '84 emissions. The Federal smog laws changed 1/1/85 and they went to dual smog pumps. I believe my truck is set up the same as yours.
