Has Anyone Seen These Mirrors?

Hello. I've decided that I want to switch to the tripod style mirrors, like were popular on the 67-72 trucks.

They seem like a good goldilocks between the camper special tow mirrors and the low mount tow mirrors. I'd like to get a decent pair that won't rust out in a few years, like I'm afraid LMC's will. Classic Heartbeat has some of these tripod mirrors I've linked to for $99 a set. One would hope they'd be nice for that kind of price. Has anyone seen these mirrors in person or even on a truck in pictures? I'd be willing to pay a little more for quality, if it's there.

Have ever been in Classic Chevrolet Parts? They have a lot of stuff in there. Lots of stuff on hand for our trucks. They are easy to find on the west side of I-35 just south of the I-35 and I-240 crossroad at 8723 South Interstate 35 service road.

I've driven by it lots but never gone in. I'll have to give them a try!

GM used a very similar tripod mirror on the squares also. My 77 K20 and my 78 K10 both had them from the factory. My dad's 79 K15 has them also.

I removed them on my K20 due to the sheet metal cracking at the upper mounting point. It made the mirror shake. I then put the same style on that you have.

My '79 had them. If you can find a decent set of used ones they would would be superior to any aftermarket ones. Factory were stainless and the mirror heads are cleaner looking. The one issue over time is the doors can crack near the mounting points of the mirrors. Mine had started near the top mount. From what I recall, there is no support in the backside of the mirror to prevent this like the ones in your avitar.

Also most after market kits will use sheet metal screws for the install. Factory uses a barrel nut with screws. The other issue you are going to have is the three holes left from you existing mirrors. There are three that are 180 degrees off from the tripod style.

My passenger side has done the cracking and now it vibrates and makes noise when driving... but shes 40 years old so she cant be perfect and be driven daily like a truck lol

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I think that most of the examples posted were more similar to the Lo-mount mirror. On the tripod, the support legs extend down past the body line and the mirror extends out just a little bit further.

I won't be pulling a camper with my truck, or else I'd just go with the 4-point mirror. I would like to see around my mini-excavator and possibly a gooseneck every now and again though.

Craig, I figure you're right. I stopped by one salvage yard, but he didn't sell parts. On to the next one, I guess.

I'm also planning to fab a brace for the inside of the door, hopefully a bit beefier than stock. I'll have some body and paint work done on my truck, so I'm not so worried about the holes from the old mirrors.
