I had a 86 k20, same t-case NP208. I've bottomed out, even with a lift, several times and only cracked the case. Partial skid plate doesn't cover all.1985 should be aluminum except k30.
anyway, even if you fill up the case with the proper fluid, this could happen.
my case was super duper hard to shift from 4wd to N to 4lo.
then it died.
that's my 'flying turd', so be careful and get that case some lovin'.

You will have the lighter duty 27 spline NP208 since it's a k10, unless it was changed sometime.
I’m not sure what trans that would be but what I have is a 3 speed column with 4 wheel drive no overdrive
