Put it back in, put the pinion nut back on and crank it down real good, put some duct tape over the inspection hole, fill’er up and hammer down. You now have a full race lightweight diff.

This......

Should probably be in the Rant Thread,...

I can't count the number of things that show up in my shop that clearly spent a lot of time trying to warn the operator that failure was imminent.

But it's always "I dunno. It just stopped."

Makes my hair hurt.
X2, at my shop.

WTF! SERIOUSLY!

Dude, just go buy another axle. Your gears, bearings, and carrier are toast.

Your oil must have looked like starry night.

Rub some dirt on it and throw it back in there.

Ha! Seriously -

I broke the pinion gear at Columbus one time. Drove to Jegs, got a new 4.10 gearset and put it in at the track - in the rain.

Legendary racer Camp Stanley came flying by, grabbed the pinion gear out of my hand and rolled it through a puddle.

"There ya go" he said, handing it back to me. "It'll help it break in better."

What a nut...

Was this when you were flat towing or on the open?

Thinking JB Weld may be overkill, just blend out the damage to stress relieve that carrier. What could possibly go wrong?

No - that was with the enclosed trailer. Home sweet home away from home.

Funny thing is the year before I broke the trans. When I noticed (because of the stains on the pavement) that I was parked in the same pit spot my buddy said "...I think I'd find someplace else to park".
