Does anyone have any sort of knowledge on international scout 2 axles?
I see they're d44 front and rear, is has crossover already on it, it's nearly the same width as the s10.
Lug pattern is 5x5.5 supposedly, any info on lockers or gears?
I read they can have lower gears and limited slip front and rear.

Local yard has a 70's scout sitting, I called them up, they'll take 500 for both axles out of it.
Would save me alot of hassle with finding offset wheels for full widths, and setting up crossover.
I could use my s10's same wheels with adapters, and just regear if neede, and probably cut off the spring perches and relocate them for whatever I wanted.

I don't think they all had D44's? The stronger axles were an option I thought. The front axle housing might be set up as spring-under as well, which could possibly complicate things.

But it's worth looking into them if you would rather not run full width.

After discussing with a friend, I learned the v8 trucks had d44's, but higher gear ratios.

4 cyl trucks had a dinky dana 20 something, and low gears.

All had disc for the most part. And apparently the 3rd member removes like a Ford 9"?

And spring under wouldn't be a big deal, unless its likes a 10 bolt and has the pad cast into the housing.
Even still, my spring center pin distance can be made to whatever I'd like, I just would have to weld pads on

Scout axles ended up being incredibly dinky.
Smaller than my s10's axles.

So that's a bust, but I spoke with him about a 80s dodge 3/4 Ton he had, and he wants 500 for the pair of dana 44's.

Might go that route instead?

Kinda wanting to save my axles for my future 89 4x4 conversion.

Looks like a nice little Scout. That's an older one, btw. The Scout II's came later and were a little more beefy.

So I got to thinking.
A while back I posted about a "70's" dodge 3/4 Ton that was actually a 1980 dodge 3/4 Ton.

(I wanted the axles)


I remember now, the rear axle was full floating, I remember the axle shaft bolts, and correct me if I'm wrong, but a d44 wouldn't be full floating it was a rear axle.

I need to take a 2nd look at the axles, but in pretty sure it's a dana 60 rear, 44 front.

He asked 500 for the set.

Does that seem worth it?

Those older dodges would've been 3.73 or 4.09/4.10 on average.

I found a Ford kingpin dana 60 4.10 geared for 600.
Think I might take that and then go pull the dodge 60 for 250.

Alright, so...
I'm sold.
Newer 99-06 14 bolt full float with rear disc and posi, 4.10 geared, with a 86-91.5 Ford kingpin 60 front, geared 4.10 delivered to me for $1200.

I don't know about you guys out there in other states, but *any* kingpin dana 60 usually runs for 12-1500$ here in this area.

That said, thats what I'm gonna do for the s10.
Direct bolt in, no need to change drop sides.

So we're looking at with a 4" suburban lift kit, I get 10" on a s10 axle swap.
Not bad.
That'll leave room for flex and 36" tires.... I didn't want to get too big in the lift (yes me the guy with the big k5) [emoji1787]

I learned I'll have to do front shackle because of the offset of the s10 frame, which isn't really a big deal. Seems like some of the SAS kits are front shackle anyways.

But with this, I've got a game plan at least somewhat established.

I thought I would need outboard hangers to accommodate for the Ford kingpin 60 (36.5 Centerpin distance) but the s10 frame measure outside to outside is 42" and I have 5" wide frame rails, so I've got lots of real estate to place my axle hangers under the frame instead of outside of it.

I will need to use 2.5-3" square tubing for the front spring hanger bar, with some decently beefy tabs for the spring bolts..... Not too bad so far... It's looking fairly plain and simple...


Rear axle lll be getting is from a newer chevy truck, it's a 14 bolt ff rear, but it's got a wider Centerpin distance, and it's disc brake with posi.... I'll have to cut the spring perches off and reweld them to fit under the s10.... All fairly simple stuff to work with thus far.

Alright, so Tapatalk isn't displaying the actual content of any thread or PM, not really sure why, so I had to log onto the browser.

So I've been searching the web for a little bigger tire than my 36x14.5x15 I have... There's the obvious problem of a 15" fitting over a dana 60 front without grinding on the caliper (I know that's a topic of debate in some circles) that said, I was on the prowl for a bigger rim, and little bigger tire.

I found a set of 4 scooped and cut boggers, 39x15x16.5. On a set of 16.5 rims, with a good bit of back spacing, which means I'll be able to tuck them under the s10 nicely. Not completely but good enough so I don't have the clown stance with the whole tire protruding from the fender (imo boggers look good in any "stance", but I want to maintain a certain ratio)
The set was 200$, he said 2 leak down slowly , he wanted some rims in exchange or cash, the rims I thought I had weren't what he needed he didn't specify the rim size, just "6 lug wagon wheels" and frankly the wheels I had, I had to get the ok of the owner of them to trade them off anyways. (a friend let me borrow some wheels when I was going to run 1/2 tons, and I offered to buy them off of him)

Anyway, the guy was looking for a 17x12? In 6 lug, he apologized for not putting that in the post, and knocked it down to 180 for me. So tonight I'll be picking those up. I'll have to get tubes or find the leak on the 2. These won't ever be street tires, so I could care less what shape they're in, long as they dig.

The million dollar question is "will they fit?" and to answer that, I don't know, but I'll make em fit.

If the s10 with the 1 or 1.5" of lift it has clears the 31's, then with the 4" lift springs that give me about 10" of lift should allow them to clear, and if they do not, I can always use bigger front shackles, longer spring hangers, bigger rear lift block etc etc.
I found a pic on a forum (second photo) of a guy running a 4" on a s10 and he had 39.5's, but I don't believe he's running front shackles, but instead rear, which seems to steal from your lift due to the shape of the s10 frame being high in the front and lower in the back of the leaf anchor points, not to mention its going to want to kick the pinion downward if you have rear shackles in this application it seems.... That said, I'm predicting ill have sufficient lift to clear the 39.5's just concerned I will not have any room to flex but an inch or so. I do not want to run bigger leaf springs because that will eat my flexibility up, so I will just have to make it work with the 4" lift springs.
