First, let me again say thanks to the responses concerning my newly acquired transfer case.

Anyway, I've purchased an '85 k20 from my son that bought a newer truck and needed money.

My thoughts were to create a daily driving emp resistant c.e.r.t. truck for s.e.r.e. purposes.

yes, i'm being silly but that's the 'theme' i had in mind.

when i got the truck here, i'm overwhelmed at the work ahead of me as well as the fact i've only worked on motorcycles of the japanese inline four variety.

anyway here it is in all it's un-glory.
(my boy says he didn't do anything to it but bought it this way)

I'm a retired army cav scout so i have the time but the work is VERY daunting.
(i'm a little on the physically broken side)

there was a wooden clothes pin holding the primary butterfly open for goodness sakes!
and are those outer dually rims on there? no backspace at all and wouldn't fit over the 9000lb brake drums anyway, they're 15" instead of 16"!

To be 100% EMP proof, it's gotta have a points distributor, like an old school Mallory dual point. I think you can still buy them along with spare points and condenser.

I just happen to have one, but it doesn't have vacuum advance.

you're right.
they are readily available along with the coil/ballast combo.

i was thinking a complete assembly in a faraday cage tucked in the tool box.
along with a replacement alternator (fragile internal regulator).
