Hey guys I'm working on my project 87(73front end). I'm just about to get a lowering kit but I really don't have a clue on what I should get from the research I've done a 5/5 or a 5/7 is probably the way to go but I'm not sure I need to go that low check out the pics and maybe give me some advice on what to look for? Or some recommendations would be awesome so I can start my search thanks in advance. What does your truck have let's see some pics with the details!

How much do you want to spend? I bought CPP Modular spindles $300, tubular upper/ lower control arms w/ drop springs and shocks for $750 on sale to lower the front 5". The rear, I bought $15 axle perches and welded them on to do an axle flip for the rear. This truck is for my son otherwise, I would have done a coilover set-up. The modular spindle is the only way to go as it corrects the offset and allows you to run different brakes if wanted.

Hey thanks for the reply just outta curiosity why did you go with tubular control arms? I found the belltech 4/6 I kinda like that kit it's 650 American and it looks like it's pretty Eazy to install even with the notch in the frame... I'm not afraid to do the work I'm just looking for the best most efficient way to get a nice stance. I'd pay 1000 max but I'm looking for alternatives... More then one way to skin a cat. Soo far to me buying the belltech kit seems like the way too go? What do you think? Also I know nothing about air bags? Maybe that's an option?

Ok so I'm pretty sure I want to go with the belltech kit 4/6 seems like the best fit for me but I'm curious if rim/tire size will be an issue? I've got 18" rims 255/55 on rear and 245/50 front?

I went with tubular control arms because they have some camber correction in them to reduce the number of shims the alignment shop is going to have to use plus they were only really about $100 more than rebuilding, powder coating, adding poly bushings to the stock arms. There are a few other manufacturer that I considered for control arms that can narrow and move back the arms but at almost double the price of the CPP. This truck is for my son, if it was mine, I'd put it on an aftermarket chassis or do the QA1 set-up.

Bell tech is good and and has been in business the longest, the problem is their spindle design much like McGaughys, western, etc hasn't been updated. CPP sells 3 different drop spindles for C10's. 1. similar to Belltech and others, 2. a modular spindle which other manufactures use such as Ridetech in their kits as well which reduces the track width to drum width allowing more steering radius, and allows for bigger brakes without cutting the spindle, and a 3rd modular spindle which uses a Corvette bearing set-up for the best performance applications. I went with the regular modular spindle.

For the rear, I kept it simple and cheap and reliable. $15 and an hour of welding/ cutting to replace the perches. Nothing wrong with flip kits, I just didn't want the extra brackets.

Did you have to cut the bed for the shackle? I considered adding a shackle to my son's truck but cutting into the bed isn't an option as it has a wood bed which has shorter cross rails so the bed floor is essentially lower than on a metal bed.

depend if youv got 56" leaf or 52" on 56" like mine no need to cut bed bar on SWB but 52" yes you need the space!

this is my truck SWB (frame cut convertion) with 56" long leaf spring! ;)

If I am following correctly...on LWB truck, I wouldn't need to cut the bed? Also...what size tire is that? I want to see if I can achieve the same diameter with a 15" wheel :)
