Sand blast, ospho, rustoleum professional red primer/thinner through hvlp, rustoleum professional black/hardener/thinner through hvlp. Nothing special, but it seems pretty durable.

I’ve used Por-15 in the past on vw projects and I actually like this better so far.
It looks gorgeous.

Here’s a picture of mine before I put the actual ac compressor on. In this pic it still has an ac delete pulley.

Is that a factory serpentine setup? I spoke to the Vintage Air guy today and he said he could probably swap me for the serpentine compressor I need for the cost of shipping. But the cost of the aftermarket serpentine setups are nuts. There's plenty in the PnP's - could pull them from a wreck.

Yes, factory brackets and accessory locations.

Is there such a thing as a long water pump on a Vortec? When I spoke to Vintage Air, guy looked up my order - said to send the compressor and brackets back.....then made a comment 'you probably got a bracket for a long water pump'. ?! I know they asked me at the time and my 85 had a long pump on it. Are the Vortecs different or just one style?

I don’t recall that being an option when I purchased mine, but if there is a longer one I sure could use it. My fan could stand to go a little further into my shroud.

Rock Auto doesn't show a short / long pump option on a 97 the way it does for 85. I'm guessing the VA guy mentioned it as thats for the spacing of the pulleys?

Did the 97's have electric fans?

Vortecs had just the one water pump length- long. The vortec water pump takes a thread-on style fan clutch. The pulley is retained with the familiar four bolts, but it's a larger bolt spacing than the earlier years.

Stupid question, but aren't serpentine water pumps reverse rotation?

Yes.

But there are a couple performance aftermarket pumps that are designed to run in either direction.

I have a vortec accessory setup on my engine with vintage air. There are alot of questions going back an forth in here though so Idk exactly what to answer.

All serpentine setups use a reverse rotation water pump....

I don't want to hijack this thread but wondered if you liked the hydraulic brake booster vs the vacuum and was it worth the effort to install?
