Bringing this back to the top -

The Gilmore has re-arranged a bit and moved the muscle car display into a different room.

Butchman was kind enough to send a couple photos.

I was there in the middle of October for an outdoor Blues fest and to check on things but they hadn't made the switch yet.

I wish I'd have had $3500 back in '65!

Fantastic Car. One of my favorites and in the 65 Model too. So many 64 and 65 models I like better than the 66 and later. Being born in 66 I wish I liked a 66 better. I do like the 65/66/67 better than the 68/69 so if I did a big car, but even in the Pontiacs and the Olds, I prefer the older than 66's. Not sure why that is. I shoulda been born a year or 2 earlier.

My talks about how she wished she still had her 69 VW Bug. She says her and my dad paid $2000 for that car brand new off the dealer lot and they even financed it for 4 years. ****, that's just a down payment today.

That was a years pay for a lot of folks back then.

This particular car was given to us. That's probably why dad was somewhat secretive about it up until the end.

We bought a '63 SD Catalina new, which was taken back. A '64 GTO was given to us as a replacement, but they took that back too. That's when we got the '65.

When dad went down to look at the new '66 GTOs he left the '65 locked up in the garage at home (!).

By comparison - my '63 Grand Prix was $5300 new.

It has an inscription in the owner manual that says "Merry early Christmas Andy - love Mom & Dad".

Pretty unbelievable to me.

I was surprised to be looking around on a truck site and see a post about a GTO. I've read your post on Performance Years about your dads GTO before. My dad had a Montero Red GTO when I was little. He sold that and bought a 72 Blazer which is why I'm on this forum now. I just bought a 75. I thought it was interesting I saw this post today and read one of the articles that your Dad passed on Nov 12th. He left you a great piece of history.
