When the bearings on ac compressor went out in my Dakota it made a similar sound and was intermiten too. So I'm gonna guess bearings somewhere.

I would say it does sound bearing-y lol id also say my ac compressor but i removed it when i bought it and never put it back on. Still have it though.

So you're next move needs to be a stethoscope on each valve cover, the fuel pump, timing chain cover and oil pan. The timing chain slop hitting cover is rare but can happen, so is the fuel pump being noisy and it's not the fuel pump if the noise is transfered to the fuel pump. If it's transfered to the fuel pump, it's usually your fuel pump lobe going flat, eventually the fuel pump will quit working and you'll either have to go with an electric pump or change the cam.
