Lowering just the rear of an 84 c10

so I have 84 c10 lwb and I want to level the truck out. I measured the fender lip to tire clearance and I have a 2 inch difference with the rear space 2 inchs bigger. Would a 2 inch drop shackle work? Not trying to lower it as I use it a lot for work stuff. Searched a lot but didn’t see much on the topic. Thank you

You need to move the rear axle back an inch to even out that gap, and the front forward half an inch to even that gap also. Lol, I dont know crap about lowering.

If you use it for work, doesn't it usually sit level loaded?

Fwiw. Wheel wells are not the same front to rear. Making the measurement equal from the ground to the opening will not result in a level vehicle.

to clarify I want to lower just the rear 2 inches. I measured from the top edge of the wheel well to the top of the tire. not too concerned with where the wheel is in the wheel well front to back

@Arkansas_V8 knew what you meant. He was giving you a hard time. @gotyourgoat was saying your method of figuring for a level truck was flawed because the wheel well measurement you took isn’t a way to gauge “level.”

ok. to rephrase my question. to drop the rear 2 inches, do I use a drop shackle only, or do I also need to change the front leaf spring hanger too?

I'd put big block springs on the front to level it. Plus it won't roll over on corners as much.

If you only use a drop shackle you only lower one side of the spring, effectively cutting your drop in half. 2" drop shackle is actually 1" of measured drop.

I have not played with drop shackles in many years but that's how I recall it going down.

Nope that's not how it works.

A 2" shackle will give you 2" of drop. You wont need new shocks or shock extenders. You will have to notch the bed support brace directly above the shackle. If you dont want to do that a 2" drop hanger will get the drop you are after without any bed mods. You still wouldn't have to mess with different shocks with it either.
