In the picture I have circled what I think is a heat shield. It is a picture of my 78' cab tipped over onto it's back. I have looked on my 85' and the piece is there as well. It doesn't appear to be doing anything on my 85'. The 85' has headers and I was thinking on stock exhaust manifolds they might get close to the cab at this point?

The reason I am asking is I plan on spraying Raptor bed liner on the bottom of the cab and I am worried about spraying it on this piece of it is going to get hot. Or maybe it is something totally different.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

my '74 crew cab has the same thing. I have the short speed engineering headers and there about 5" away from it.

anyway, I'm rambling on. Haha.
Yes, it could be. I'll have to look on mine tomorrow!

They used to locate the heat riser butterfly trap between the passenger side exhaust header and the exhaust pipe.
Until it opened all the way it would get much warmer in that location.

Sample pic below.

I had one like that on the cab of my 85 Jimmy. I cut it off with a plasma torch because it had crap built up on it and was the cause of some rust.

I cut one out, and unbolted another when I removed my exhaust hangers.
