You could do a 496 BBC super easy cheap 4.25 crank and pistons are easy to get. Caddy parts HP are few and far and 12 to 1 you buy the fuel where at the ARCO down the street? Mild compression 496 with big oval port heads like a 049 or something, and yea the trucks came with them.
My 1st car was an Oldsmobile so I have a soft spot and wanted a fast one over 10K later I had one but realized I could have built a Chevy for 1/4 of that and it would have been just as fast.
Why fight it?

Man i'm really bummed out about this deal...got my buddy on the phone - ready to go - turns out that $300 wouldn't be missed and there is NO GOOD REASON I couldn't buy that 5o0+4o0 and i'm freaking.sad.

Lunch with Bryan tomorrow to discuss Babe the Blue Ox herself! I wanted this meeting to involve plans for swapping engines, but I digress.
Looks like even @HotRodPC even lucked out in the deal too. Bet he's sad boutit too :( .

I'm not sure this is over. The uncertainty lies in realizing a terror may have but begun! God help us all should such an awesome monstrosity become unleashed upon the world.. I shall fear for the street.

When you said 472 heads on a 500, I immediately thought of that Chevette. That was a really cool build and not the kind of thing that you would normally see on the cover.
Yeah, for a 500 to run good you have to have 472 heads on it. The 500 is a smogger engine very low in compression, so you need heads off like a 68 472. A 68-69 472 would spank the ever living dogshit outta a Cad 500 for the smogger EPA castration.

How much was it? I'd like to put an Olds or Pontiac 455 in a Square.

I just like seeing any square with another GM inbred in it. Olds, Pontiac, Buick, Cad etc. You get an older engine like a 70 or older, even better for 67-69 where the real power houses, in any of the GM variants, you'll have something that's run and be a torque monster, like any of the 455's in Buick, Olds or Pontiac, Pontiac 389 or 421 would be bad ass too, Buick Nailhead, Cad 472, Olds 425 etc. Any of those big block monsters in a square is totally alright in my book.

Did someone say something gas mileage??? Well yeah it'll run real good, but how gallons to a mile, I have no idea, just be sure to be running dual tanks.

I used to work with several Russian Ukraine Bulgaria immigrants and one day my brother shows up in his red 76 Eldorado convertible and they were speechless

They had never seen a car that large and when we popped the hood they about fainted from the sight of the size of the engine

Couple weeks later brother comes back in his 88 Fiero with a 4.9 Cadillac V-8 in it and took em for a ride

We used to call em crazy Russians
After that they started calling us crazy Americans

Sure looks clean under all that dust AND it's in s car? Worth loads to ME to hear it run plus YOU KNOW that one is WAY moar kompleet (bolts, brackets, etc.) I dunno man that one seems like a sweet deal too!
Then again, consider the source lol :)

I'm still pretty bummed out. 22 hours...
I talked to Bryan about it later and he REALLY DIDN'T want to toss that ****** in the Blue Ox and I told him "sorry Pal, that is DEFINATELY what I was up to :burnout:" then he said "but you've got the Monte Carlo still?" and maybe saved my truck's life lmao because omg duh that sounded like a WAY MOAR GOODER idea!

But also not as cool, so it's kinda helpin me get over a Cadillac 500 but i'm still keepin my eyes peeled because yeah, $300 was a freeking money making deal - but whatever!:893Chainsaw-Smilie-

We coulda put the 362 in that truck and twisted it up real good! :gay::peace:
Sounds like that engine/trans oughta be in there anyway..seems like a waste though.
