I was coming from a truck show sunday in Gulfport ms. The truck ran great down there. The drive was about 215 mile one way. I drove all weekend without any problems, I was going home Sunday, about 80 miles into the trip I heard a noise and saw smoke, I thought I had a blow out on a rear tire. I pulled over and saw oil on the ground, I got under the truck and there was a hole as big as my fist.what happen? I changed the oil about 1 month before I left, had only driven it less then 200 miles. I am confused

Sorry Christopher, that’s not good as for why? Could be anything, best thing to do is pull out the engine and find you a donor. May tear it down and find the problem, I had that problem when I over revved mine while responding to a 911 call crossing a field and truck went airborne and that was the end of that engine.

That’s odd, but it sounds like a catastrophic failure to me if I’m reading it right that it punched a hole in the block. I’d find you a running motor or a good looking short block and go from there. Luckily it’s not the end of the world.

Hole in the pan or block? Either way, it's probably a lot of carnage. You can pull it apart to see what parts are left that are still good and also look for signs that a bearing(s) was starved for oil or highly worn.

Welllll...better hope the crank didn't get scratched up! Tough luck Buttercup. What kind of oil and filter were you using?

And wtf.? Why doesn't this thread have any picks?

Please go back and try again.

Do not pass go.

Do not collect $200.

I was wondering about getting a new engine, I am nervous about a rebuilt engine. What would you suggest

Sell it cheap to me... rollers go for $2000. I'll give you 2500.

Just kidding.
The answer is obvious Christopher, now is your opportunity to drop a BB in it. A 496...

I like the drive my truck anywhere. I drive from Mississippi to forney tx twice a month. I won’t decent gas mileage. I had a 350 with a cam and headers and flow masters and I should drive about 300 miles on a tank of gas running about 65 mph

Pre '86 block or post '86? Stock iron heads?

It's sounding like a basic 300 hp or so crate 350 engine would suite your needs just fine. There's plenty to choose from in that power range.
