Can anyone help out, I have a 1986 California C 10 and just swapped the 305 for an LS 3, big difference.. Anyway the factory gauges are tired there's no tach or clock the mechanical speed is tired and fuel circuitry on the circuit board works intermittent at best, oh yeah the oil pressure works most of the time " with a couple taps".. I'm looking to install Dakota VHX gauge cluster hoping to bring my old trucks gauge cluster into the 21st century, my question is does anyone know the wire colors and position of the dash terminal you know the big 2 sided terminal that plugs into the back of the circuit board? if I can identify all the wires it should make for an easier transition ?? thanks

Did you buy the Dakota cluster already? From what I remember, it comes with good instructions on how to hook it all up.

I just put DD vhx in my 85. It's by far the best upgrade I've ever done. Extremely happy!!!
Now then ... The DD instructions will tell you which wires to hook up to the control box. It does NOT tell you which color those wires are. However, I can probably tell you from memory what they are. There's not that many. If you have a multimeter you can remove the stock cluster and then just probe each terminal in the plug as you go thru turn signals, dash lights, hi-low beam, fuel guage, tach, parking brake and 4wd. Also has connection for a/c kick and dual electric fans if you need it. They provide thier own pigtail harnesses for the temp, oil pressure and speedo. It's very easy. I can help you when you're ready. I also referenced my wires with my wiring diagram I got from LMC. It's the best $10 you can spend.
