I just want to share with this group a recent experience I had with LMC (Long Motor Corp).

About 1 year ago I had to replace the license plate lamp assembly on my '81 Stepside.

After 38+ years the old unit finally rusted out and was gonners. Ordered a replacement from LMC and all is good. During the most recent annual PA Vehicle Inspection the shop calls and tells me the truck won't pass inspection because the license plate light doesn't work and they can't replace the bulb because it's all corroded, can't get the bulb out without destroying the socket.

So I order another replacement unit, this time from Classic Parts of America. Part arrives, but the quality is really bad. Won't accept the original mounting bolts and is really cheap quality, just feels cheap, looks cheap, IS cheap, but hey, it gets me my inspection stickers and I'm good to go.

Sent an e-mail to LMC asking if there parts have any kind of warranty. Get a reply, telling me no, no warranty, BUT "We stand by our parts/products."

So I send another e-mail to LMC, explaining the license plate lamp assembly I bought from them about a year ago corroded and I can't even change the bulb, that the original GMC part lasted 38+ years and I fully expected a replacement part to last more than a year.

Got a second reply from LMC telling me they FULLY AGREED with me, and would send me a replacement lamp assembly AT NO CHARGE. Arrived today.

So I'm impressed with the customer service at LMC, maybe not so much with the quality of the parts, even less impressed with the quality of parts from Classic Industries of America.

Bottom line............"You Get What You Pay For".....................

I've read other posts on this forum and men saying problems with parts from LMC were dealt with fairly and without "hassle", so I say a big "Thumbs Up" to LMC.

Just my 2 cents....Nick, Harrisburg, PA

Glad you had a good experience with them. Sometimes we don't have a choice but to buy from them whether we like it or not. But, as good of a review you gave their CS, I've heard a couple of just as real bad experiences, usually to do with exchanges of wrong merch. Though I've heard many more good experiences than bad.

It's always good to hear good stories as well as bad one. Sadly, it's the not so good or plain crappy customer service are the ones that everyone remembers. The good ones are just forgotten.

In today's world, usually you just get no response or a "shrug-off"........I was impressed with the way LMC owned up to a bad part and handled the situation. I even offered to send the old part back, at my expense.....I've dropped probably over $500.+ with LMC in last 5 months.....

Thought LMC might want to see it for themselves, but they replied, no, we don't want the old part returned.

Part at LMC was $19.95 + ship. Same part at Classic Industries was $19.95 + ship. Same part from Classic INDUSTRIES, Huntington Beach, Calif. is $29.95+ ship.

Ordered an entire cig lighter assembly from Classic Industries, Calif. Was about $80.00 BUT the quality was there. I don'y mind spending the $$'s, IF i get top grade parts.

I'll be ordering more parts from Classic Industries moving forward. Will be interesting to see if everything I get from them is better quality.

The replacement piece that came today is "Made in Taiwan" and looks exactly like the one they sent me a year ago.

The old one leaked from the top of the unit and all the rubber cracked and just disintegrated, letting water into the socket and corroded.

From the tone of your e-mail I take it you don't like LMC, which is okay. You've had a bad or several bad experiences with them ..........but the problem is,...........there are so few places to get parts for these old trucks we are all trying to keep running.............

The good part is......with forums like this we can all share experiences and let each other know what we bought from what vendor and if it was good quality or crap.

I'm going to be needing body parts soon as I've got some rust I need to address before I give this 'ol gal a new coat of paint. There are numerous vendors selling fenders, etc. but I have no idea of the quality of these parts and rely on feedback from other members to help decide who to buy from...................Nick.

I dealt with comcast today, so it can't be worse.

I dont think they gave a ****.

Comcast sux for sure! Yes, they don't give a **** either. I know from experience. They cut my cable off by mistake years ago. When I called to tell them she said sorry we'll be out in a week to turn it back on. Oh hell no I said. Your ass will be out here tonight and turn it back on. After cussing her she sent a guy out that night and got my **** back on. The tech told me. Never let them tell you they don't have anyone in the area. Because they always do.

I wish I had that option!
Unfortunately, I'm stuck with either them or dsl through the phone company at 'up to' 10mbps.
My attempted workaround is going to be to use xfinity prepaid cable internet for $40/m.
I'm kind of expecting my idea to fail miserably, and they're probably listening right now and adjusting things so it will never work. Haha....

I have a friend that had a problem with cheap parts store lamps rusting out on his 90 chevy truck. When mine wasnt working on my truck I knew better than to buy one of those. I ordered 4 of these and they had ground wire instead of grounding through the base.

I got 2 license plate lamps from local auto parts store. Can't remember which one, but they were suppose to ground thru rear bumper. Had intermittent grounding. Filed outside of socket on the rear, soldered wires and ran to screw on frame. No more grounding issues.

Just an FYI, I always put a dab of dielectric grease in whatever socket I'm putting a bulb into along with any connectors.
