I've been looking for some shorty or mid length headers for my 83 K20. Have not found anything from the popular manufacturers. Has anyone tried Chevelle or some other application, or found a small company that makes them. Suppose I could build my own if I wanted them badly enough. Owned it since 1985, in need of a 2nd restoration, most likely the last for me.

Why would you want shorty...
they don't much much for 'truck' power, they don't help to build torque is what I'm getting at.

I always thought the short ones were for low end hp, mids midrange and long tubes put it on the top end.

I have Sanderson BB8's with ORD motor mounts on my Blazer (454 w/ hydraulic clutch 4spd) and they fit great for me - no mods at all. I have seen a few folks try them and have issues though, maybe the ORD mounts make a difference?

Thanks, are you using these on your rig?

Unfortunately no. I live in Komifornia and have to have emissions testing every 2 years. Sanderson does not make emissions legal products.

Shorty's are essentially nice sounding exhaust manifolds. The power and torque improvements aren't there. I pulled mine off and went with some Ceramic Coated long tube headers from Summit.

i run patriot mid length headers for a 70 chevelle in my 84 c10 with a np833 4speed. they fit fine. it lets you keep the exhaust system next to the frame rails. comes in handy on a lowered truck.

I'd just as soon have cast iron manifolds as shorty headers.
If long tubes don't hang right, I get'em red hot with a rosebud tip, and bend them to where I want them.

I love my shortys and the working room they create. I ran long tubes and duals for 25 years and finally got tired of working around them, the shortys allowed me to run everything down one side high and tight - no clutter. I realize I'm missing out on a little tq and hp but that's fine, I like it just how it is.

Lots of folks poo poo on them for power loss etc but at the same time no one is bitching about power loss from the overall weight, rotational weight, parasitic drag, etc from things like 1 tons, bigger tires and/or reduction boxes. Ultimately, the power loss is not as much as nay sayers would have you believe and, you can have the 15 hp if it makes my truck easier to work on.

I had forgotten about these. They are factory stainless manifolds for late '85 and '86 454 trucks.
