In most trucks and G-vans, yes. I think 454 P-vans had carburetors until 1989. B and G Body cars had a slower phase in. The last year you could get a Quadrajet on anything GM was the 1990 Olds Custom Cruiser with a 307. Corvettes and F Bodies started getting crossfire TBI in 1982, but that didn’t last long before they moved to TPI.

Ah cool, I never paid much attention to the Gas and such. I like to look upon the Oldsmobile Diesels and 6.2/6.5Ls. Unique and different instead of the same old ****.

You seem to know a lot, I'm 20... 2yrs younger. haha.

Thanks and yeah. The Olds diesels and the 6.2/6.5s are definitely interesting to me. If I get this truck, and the 6.2 isn’t cooked, I’m gonna get it going as is. I enjoy an old fashioned naturally aspirated diesels, but I’d consider doing the mods to help wake it up some. I didn’t realize you were one of the young members. There are a few of us keeping the old iron alive.

I have a 84 K10 that came with a 833 behind a 305. Has a 350 in it now. I haven't seen another 833 in a K in person, only pics. They have a very unique console like thing and a shifter boot that cant be bought. My 833 has been rebuilt.

Oh yes, I precisely only buy 82-83 EARLY 6.2s. But yes very Interesting engines, They frown upon people for their bad rep.
It was GM That rushed the Olds Diesels into the market. I have a friend who's trying to Work out a Deal with GM to buy the Olds Diesel Sharings to bring them back to life and start machining and selling Parts again from his Collection of NOS parts, etc...

Anyhow Yes, I'm another young member just don't have the age shown. Where are you from?

Naturally, there is a story behind it.

Naturally, I am going to tell it now:

I ordered it just like the other trucks that my family drove: manual windows and locks, no air, etc. Sometime between the time I ordered the truck and before it was built I got the word that I was going to the Desert Proving Ground. In a panic, I tracked the order down and was able to get air conditioning added to the truck before it was built.

That was only the first hold up. I ordered the truck with the MY0 (aka MY6) manual overdrive trans (3rd gear is 1:1 and 4th gear is an overdrive, with a floor mounted Hurst shifter). This was about the time when Mr Gasket was buying out Hurst and, because GM was not sure they could get the shifters, they placed this transmission combination on "Stop Order". I received word that my truck would not be built and so I started fretting about what I might be able to do for "Plan B" (...order the three on the tree Saginaw trans and then replace it with my own Saginaw four speed with a floor shift, etc).

During this time I was walking through the plant, past the motor line, and I noticed a bunch of these transmissions on pallets: stacked up, dozens and dozens of them. I called the Material Control supervisor over and asked him "...how many of those transmissions do you think you have?".

"Probably a hunnert" he said.

"Don't you think we oughta' build 'em, rather than leaving them sit there?" I suggested ;)

He thought that was a pretty good idea, so when I got back to the office I mentioned it to my boss, who happened to be the guy responsible for that kind of thing.

We ended up building one hundred of those trucks under a temporary deviation (one of which, naturally, was mine).

Gotcha. I wasn't too sure but I knew 87 was the First year for TBI Correct?

First year for TBI in Full Size Truck was '87. We didn't want to have both a new powertrain and a new architecture in 1988 (aka the GMT400) so we pulled the introduction of TBI ahead one year, to gain experience and exposure before the big model change.

I believe Astro/Safari and S Trucks got TBI in 1986.

As time goes on, I want the truck more. Mostly for the transmission. What does the swap to one of these entail? I seem to remember a thread from a long time ago that said these are pretty rare. At least with the GM pattern, maybe not so much for Chrysler. Is that about right? Would it be easier to start with an SM465 truck?
i think some 5 speed dodge dakotas will bolt up to the bell housing where the a833 was?
