Looking at this ‘83 C20 in Texas for $1200, not running. They say it has a 6.2/NP833 manual in it. I’d like to get one with this gearbox setup, and the 6.2 would be reliable or I could put my 305 in it. Does this sound like a reasonable combo, or are they pulling my lariat? This transmission is not common which begs my suspicion. I’d prefer this over an SM465 so it wouldn’t be the equivalent of a Model T Ford on the interstate or larger highways. @yevgenievich this isn’t too far from you, huh?

It’s done that way automatically for some reason. The truck I sold yesterday also got auto listed as an Avalanche. I assumed New Process built them for both GM and Chrysler applications.

It is in the land of cheap squares(east of dallas). Good 5 hours from me. All square parts and trucks in that area tend to be cheaper than anywhere else in Texas

I bought this truck the other day sight unseen as a work truck, and it was kind of a mess for my taste. I’d say it’s from hanging around here too long, and some people don’t mind halfassery, but I can spot that fly by night crap a mile away.

Hmm, I might need to make a pilgrimage over there. I’d settle for an SM465, but I want overdrive. It’s about six hours or so from me, but I’d say worth it to have something to pull trailers with and haul stuff on the bed.

I know a guy with that year, engine, trans combo. It is kind of a unicorn but the factory did make them.

Interesting. If it’s still available in a week, I’m gonna go get it. If not, oh well.

From what I understand, they were available behind the civilian 6.2, the 305, and the 4.3 v6.

In Chrysler applications it was a A833 in GM it was NP833, essentially the same transmission, from what I understand it is a Legendary Mopar transmission. My truck was a factory 305 with an NP833 behind it. I was happy with it, I plan on rebuilding it prior to reinstalling it during my restoration

No. A833-OD was a Chrysler transmission for cars and trucks.

In only 82-83 they were put into CHEVY Trucks with the 6.2L Diesel engine Or Gasoline... there's only Supposeaably 200 ever made. Limited run I have Very close Older friends hell 20-30 yrs than me who's mentioned they've only seen 1-5 within the last 20-25 years with that Engine/Trans Combo. They are the Holy Grail to us 6.2/6.5L Guys.
