After 39 years and 7 months I will be separating from General Motors. They offered a “package” and I took it.

Last day in the office was February 7th; there will be a period of transition and then I will morph into retirement after that.

I’ll need to find something to do in order to keep the lights on at home but haven’t picked a new direction yet.

Good luck in the new direction. I'm sure that retirement age is kind of a weird one from what I've heard from my parents and some others that I know that are around that age.

People really need to think about retirement. You need some kind of plan to transition. It is really hard to just STOP doing something you have done all of your life. I gradually slowed at 62 and kept at it until I sold my shop at 67. Now I have my smaller shop that I put some time in and do my own stuff plus some things for others that subsidizes my expenses. Good luck Keith!!!

Congratulation, I think? I'm sure it's going to be a big change for you, but hopefully a positive one.

I have no advice to offer you except second-hand from what I've seen of my retired friends. They are so busy they wonder where they ever found the time to go to work. Good luck with whatever direction you go.

Good luck in retirement. I was in law enforcement for 27 years and had to retire at 50 due to an injury. It's a weird transition not getting up everyday for work, but I definitely enjoy it.

My dad retired for about....10 years. Now he delivers parts for O'Reilly's three days a week and claims to LOVE it.

Doesn't get any easier than that and at least he's out and about and doing something. I'd do that job

Congrats on the big change! I've been watching my dad go through this for the last few months. But they have a 50 acre field that he now actually has the time to farm. He still hasn't lol but hes been busy doing more fishing, hunting and family things then I've ever seen. He seems to be enjoying it thoroughly.

Congrats man, enjoy what you worked all these years for. I'm 58 this year and am looking forward to retirement more than most others my age. Two jobs has me working 7-11 and its getting old.

Wow big changes Keith, good for you. Now if I may suggest, you can get into fixing up squares and flipping for profit!
Or grow pot...?

So the package isnt enough to keep the lights on for awhile? No 401k or roth to pull from to live on yet?

I thought you were about to be retiring from here, and it scared me. But yeah, congratulations! Almost forty years, that’s incredible.

Congrats!! If I ever make it to that age I may see about starting a small dog walking company to keep an income and exercise.
