4" rough country all spring lift

Back on topic, here's a list of available springs through Summit Racing (k10 with either 52's or 56's) and their stated spring rates.

Front springs:

Obviously the higher the rate, the more weight they'll hold without sagging, but the trade off is that they'll be stiffer when you aren't hauling anything.


Superlift reckon that their kit will work with the diesel because "it's not much heavier than the 350"

Thoughts?

Superlift looks like they have the highest spring rate of anyone per given lift size.

Find the difference in weight between a 350 and the 6.2l, and it'll show you how much it will sag.

If it's a 500 lb difference, then you'll size 1" lower in the front due to weight versus the same springs on a truck with a 350.

From what I just Google there's only 75lbs difference? 6.2 is 650lb, 350 is 575lb so fingers crossed?

From what I just Google there's only 75lbs difference? 6.2 is 650lb, 350 is 575lb so fingers crossed?
I took a quick look, most posts were stating about 750lbs for the diesel 6.2L dry and close to 900lbs when fully loaded.

Even at that difference of up to 325lbs being fully loaded, you're talking a difference of about 6-7 tenths of an inch sag at new. Biggest issue would be how long they will last before they will really sag.

From my viewpoint, you'd be fine with a heavy spring rate (~500lbs/in or higher) such as the ones that superlift offers. It will hold the weight better without making the front end bouncy. If it comes down to it in the future, you could install an add a leaf in the front end to further stiffen it up.

A quick check on google looks like 750 lbs, dry with no accessories, closer to 900 lbs with fluids and accessories

I have a 4 inch all spring Rough Country lift on my 84 K10 and while it doesnt ride like a Cadillac its not too bad. In my opinion it does ride a little stiffer then stock but only a hair or two im also young so take that as you will lol.

I just got finished installing the same thing on my 84 k10. When I took it out for a test drive I started to feel a pretty big vibration when I started accelerating, and the more I hit the gas the more it vibrated. Did you have a similar issue?

When I talked to Rough Country they said it has to do with changing the angle of the rear drive shaft and the ware on the u-joints changing. They also said that after a couple of weeks or so things should settle and it would go away or Ill need to replace the u joint. Sounds like it makes sense to me? Do any of you guys think could be the case?

My thought is to give it a couple weeks to settle in and see if the vibration goes away. Or should I just change the u joints?

I did opt'd for the transfer case drop kit, which just adds 2" spacers between the frame rail and the Tcase cross member. I believe this is supposed to help with angle change.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It could be due to a worn u joint, but most likely its due to the angle being changed now which creates the vibration. Check the angles between the driveshaft and pinion. Typically want the pinion in line with the driveshaft or parallel to the transmission/transfer case output.

The transfer case drop will help the rear end out, but will actually make the front angles worse since it pitches the transfer case back.

For a true leveled drop of the transfer case, you would also need go drop the transmission and engine the same amount.

While at the pick a part yesterday, I noticed that one of the Blazers appears to have a 4" lift on it (5 leaf springs on the front, and 4" block in rear). Do spring makers mark there springs in any way, so I could possibly tell exactly what they are? Not really interested in the rear blocks, will probably go with a shackle flip, but might try the springs.

The only ones I've purchased that had marking were Ranchos and they were painted on. Neither my Skyjackers or Tuff Countries had markings.

I didn't see any cracks and for $66 for the pair, I guess it would be hard to go wrong. I'll try to get back there in the next couple of days. My eventual plan is to go with a ORD set of front springs and new springs and a shackle flip kit for the rear.

I still think those new style rear blocks are hokey as can be. For cripe's sake, leave the damn cast blocks in the kit and just raise the price 10 bucks.
I agree... I wonder if other blocks can be purchased
