i need part #'s for the following:

1) pcv/breather grommets

2) Breathers*

3) Oil hole grommet

4) Oil cap *

* Stipulations:
5) This is for 87 and up vortec valve covers.

6) Prefer OE GM, although high-quality after market is ok; Dorman is probably ok, but i'm thinking K+N /Trans-dapt etc. is better.

7) Would prefer an oil fill tube and cap, but cap only is ok too.

i already have a pcv valve so i just need a breather (i'm running an open element type air cleaner)

87-95 arent vortec heads they are swirl ports. They have different sized accessory grommets than the 96-01 vortec 350 engines. You can use the swirl port valve covers on vortec heads.

This stupid problem has really been bugging me and taking WAY too much time and i wanted to get to the bottom of it once and for all. If it was a few drops leaking, i wouldn't care, but this is too much. So i took my old grommet out and measured the hole with some calipers. The grommet itself may not be leaking, but i'll explain everything as the problem gets solved.


So, for anyone who gives a plop:

To the best of my knowledge so far:

1) The oil fill /oil cap hole for "swirl-port"/"vortec"/ center bolt valve covers up to 93 at least, (so that's 86-93) are the same size for v-8's and v-6's (aka 4.3). i DO NOT know about after 94 at this point.

2) The inside diameter size of this hole is 30.6 mm OR 1 and 3/16" inch.

3) To the best of my knowledge, the correct grommet for this hole is GM part # 10108402 (which replaced old part #3982983)

i believe #3989350 is correct for pcv, but for oil fill hole, i think #3982983 or #10108402 is the one for the oil hole.

The problem I ran into with my swap was the vortec covers breather hole was to big for the tbi tube to run from the VC to the ait cleaner spacer of the TBI. I quit messing with it and put my swirl port VCs on the vortec heads.

The VC in the first post dont look to have an "oil cap" and look to use a breather instead...What are you trying to accomplish?

As you can see, somehow there is oil leaking onto the valve cover. Now this COULD be because the grommet just needs to be replaced.

--OR it could be due to me using other methods such as tin foil or a rag to cover the hole----i was wanting to eliminate the fill tube to clean up the engine compartment. i ran it like that "for a while." i then put the tube back in, in order to try to cure the leak without cleaning the oil from the valve cover----so i'm not sure what is actually causing the leak.

Either way, the grommet should probably be replaced irregardless----it is probably the same grommet from 1986.


My theories are:

1) That the grommet is not actually leaking, but using tin foil or a rag in the hole was causing the leak. Putting the tube back in, or something equivalent will stop the leak.

AND/OR

2) The grommet is brittle and IS leaking and should be replaced.

First I can tell you that a hole in the vc without a baffle will allow oil to reach the pcv valve/breather/rag , My vette burns oil on high rpm runs because there is no baffle in its current VC and didnt do that before I changed them. If you are driving like this you could be pushing oil out by the breather you have created. Also the Pic looks to have the fill cap hole near the firewall is this correct?

My point was the oil fill hole probably doesnt have a baffle like the pcv valve and maybe where your oil is coming from. Sorry didnt realize we were talking about a wee6
