Good golly. 2500 pounds and 57 inches long. Are you looking for general ideas, or a detailed how-to?

And howdy!

Well I'm looking for a good diesel to put in my k20, but I want it to be something alittle rare not a cummins or a duramax, I've been floating around detroit diesels and 2 strokes are good but how many gears would I need you know what I'm saying so if you have any recommendations of unique engines please inform me lol

Without doing any measurements at all, I'm guessing you would need to raise the body from the frame (maybe more than the common body lift) and likely move the firewall more rearward. The rear of the engine might end up under the wiper cowl.

In the last couple years, I've had thoughts of using a 6V71. I love how they sound, but that's still a lot of girth to shove under the hood of an old truck.

If I did it, I'd like to use a garden variety SM465. I think the correct clutch/bellhousing is out there, I just don't know how to go about finding it.

It's the common trans that was used in these trucks and also used in some of the medium duty trucks as well. And some of the medium duty trucks received Detroits that I can only assume used the SAE bellhousing.
