I think there is trash in my tank and I have to replace the sending unit anyways has it only reads about 3/8 of a tank when full.

So I was thinking about replacing the tank with a 87 tank to prep for future fuel injection.

Would an 84 sending unit work in an 87 tank? Or could I put an 87 sending unit in and have it work on my 84 cluster?

Unless you’re for sure about getting fuel injection later or your tank is rusted, I’d keep the original. The Taiwanese tanks are decent, but they have nothing on the robustness of what came on the trucks. Otherwise, yes to all your above questions.

I have 87 tanks on my 84...and a 350tbi/700r4 from an 87 donor truck. No probs with the gauge or anything else for that matter.

I have crap always getting clogged in my Qjet filter. Im not sure where its coming from but all of the rubber back to where it goes from the passenger frame rail to over to the tank has been replaced. I cant help but think there is ******** in the tank.

And yes, the plan is to go LSx. But If I have the tank down, I might as well just replace it, but thought that the 87 sender would be different than the 84 sender. Maybe?

Just trying to be proactive about my repairs for future mods.

Oh, I understand. Wish you were a little closer. I have a 31 gallon ‘87 fuel tank that I’d give you. It’s an original and tough as nails. Just needs to be rodded out.
