How much to lower?

I have never lowered a vehicle before amd honestly know nothing about it. I have an '85 C20 amd plan to go with a 20" rim and low profile tires. My main question is how much can I lower the truck without wheels rubbing in the wells or other problems? Also, what is the simplest lowering kit that you can recommend? Thanks.

I would suggest with that tire and wheel combo....2-1/2" drop spindles up front with stock coils...and a axle flip kit in the rear. The flip kit will get you around 5 inches...lower iin the rear if you keep the overload spring. You will also need shorter shocks front and rear to accomodate the lower stance. If the front sits too high with the spindles, you can alsomcut one coil from the spring with a cutoff wheel of sawzall...NOT a torch! The wheels ...20x8 up front and if you want to stagger 20x10 out back. Feont tires...265 x 40x20 and back...295x45r20...The wheels should clear everything as long as the backspacing is adequate in regards to tire fender clearance. I had a similar setup prior to my 84 being bagged. I didnt have any rubbing issues until I went lower up front using spindles (2-1/2") and 3 " drop coils.

Either way a 3" drop in front and 5" drop out back.

No problem...

I am currently fabricating and bagging a 64 chevy c10 that I purchased last year. Since my 84 is basically complete......I needed another project to tinker with. It maitains my sanity...lmao.

This truck will basically be scrapng the ground and setting the rear bumper on the pavement at shows.

You can buy drop spindles at westernchassisinc. A bit expensive but good quality.
