Fuel tanks

Am needing to either refurbish my current tanks or acquire new ones. 1984 GMC K1500 short bed 4wd, 16 gallon tanks.

Since the leak in the left tank is not severe, maybe a gallon over a couple months, would you refurbish or purchase new?

For new, any one purchase parts from Summit? Thoughts or comments on quality? Alternatives?

Will 20 gallon tanks bolt in without modifications other than filler neck?

First answer - My understanding is that there is no space for a 20 gallon tanks in a short bed. Lots of places sell replacement tanks, but I don't know if there is a difference in quality.

If I was buying new I would get a newer tank with baffles for a fuel injection pump, since it provides the option to upgrade to EFI later on. Its fairly easy to R&R an empty tank, but I don't know how hard it is to install new straps and rubber on a new tank. The difficult part is reaching the rubber hoses to remove clamps while holding up the tank, so make sure you replace them with new ethanol-rated hoses. The new ethanol rated hoses hold up much better to today's fuel.

This is the type of hose you want for a carbureted system but you might have to check the local stores to see what they stock for SAE 30R7 hose. http://www.acehose.com/fuel-line-hose-sae-30r7.html You might also find SAE 30R9 hose, which is rated for fuel injection pressures.

Thanks for the welcome and reply. I do have a floor type transmission jack with a wide pad for support. Baffles and ethanol hoses are great ideas.
