If it's original Dextron, make sure it's hot and fill it midway in the "hot" section on the stick.

The truck downshifted hard when coming to a complete stop that's why I checked it

Yep, what Art said. One of the last few models that still used good ole Dextron ll. Start getting to models newer than that they start wanting Dextron lll and synthetics and all that ********.

Hopefully that hard downshift was just a fluke and doesn't continue. I'm doubtful that had anything to do with fluid level if you were just on the add line. When 700r4 start having hard upshifts and/or downshifts, it's a sign the end is coming near. Maybe not in the next few hundred miles but it's time to start babying it a bit. If it was a one time thing, I wouldn't worry about it, carry on. it could have been a sticky valve that freed itself up and all is now well. If it become more frequent, then I'd be more concerned.

I think the the TV cable definitely uad something to do with it. We don't drive it hard at all but the truck has an appointment this week with the shop that rebuilt it so I guess I'll have it towed there because I definitely don't have the cash for a new one right now.

Apparently the ole lady had it in four wheel drive the other day when it snowed up here. So I engaged the four wheel then disengaged it put a half quart of fluid in her and it shifted fine so hopefully that was it for now..

Cable shouldn't change, but it's easy to check, just have the wife push the throttle all the way to the floor and try and pull the cable more, if you can't it's adjusted right.

What Art said, and if you have an aftermarket Carb, you've got the geometry corrector for your linkage on that Carb. They're made for either Holley or Eddy Carbs.

Also, before you adjust the TV cable, make sure the carpet isn't bunched up and the floor mat(s) is (are) out from under the gas pedal and there are no obstructions blocking it from being WOT. Believe it or not that will contribute to an improperly setup TV cable enough to ruin your 700R4 in a hurry. I have seen people with 2 or 3 floor mats in their garbage or with a couple of layers of aftermarket auto carpet blocking the gas pedal not understand why their freshly rebuilt (and self installed) 700r4 shot its load in less than 1000 miles.

Actually you need to check to see if the carb is at full throttle when the pedal is to the floor no matter what, if it's not it needs to be corrected first.

I had a similar hard downshift about a month ago with my 700R4.
Didn't happen again but was defiantly concerned. The trans was rebuilt approx. 10k miles ago. I'll check my TV cable as suggested. Any difference on the method if TBI instead of carb?

I finally found that sweet spot in the TV cable and what a world of difference this thing shifts beautifully now. When it shifts into 3rd there's a little higher rpm and it shifts smoothly just wondering, does that have to do with the shift kit?
