Wanting to add a couple 6x9s to my truck...need help on enclosure

So my 86 k10 currently does not have a radio, or at least the current radio doesn't work. I'm planning on buying a new headunit and add a couple speakers just to get some sound in there. For now I'm just going to add 2 6x9s until I have more time to put a couple more in there.

The easiest thing it seems is to just buy two premade 6x9 boxes and put them in the cab corners (not sure if they'll fit), behind the bench seat, or under the seat and face them forward toward feet. Does anybody have any suggestions or pictures of theirs? This doesn't have to look good or anything, just an old farm truck that needs some tunes lol. Thank you!

why not get the factory cab corner mounts and keep the behind the see free for other stuff?

I heard you need to put a covering of some sorts on them, some powdercoat them or glue fabric on them, I have no experience with them myself..

Do you have the factory 4 x 10's mounts in the rear corners? If so, you can cut the opening to be 5 x 10 (or bigger) and they will hold a standard 6x9 (as well as a baffle to help seal it). You can mount them in the same factory spot, or close to it. The factory location seems to fire them across the cab, pretty much right into the back of the seat. Once you have the 6x9s in the mount you can play with the location, you have a lot of room to play with it to get the speakers to fire more forward. I was going to do this until I made custom boxes for them, but it was a easy, and free option.

What did you make the boxes of? Any pics of your setup? I had some Polk speakers in my 2003 Impala and they sound incredible. I'd like to put a similar setup in my K10 at some point with 6x9s, then dropping in some new dash speakers and maybe a sub.

I don't have any speakers in the rear corners, it's just blank sheetmetal lol. I guess I'm gonna buy a couple different 6x9 boxes at best buy and see which ones fit best where. I think I have the 4x10s in the dash, so I think I'm gonna do the two 6x9s in the rear and replace those in the dash and just find a headunit somewhere. I think that'll be enough to play a few tunes rolling down the road.

If you are tall and like your seat all the way back, do not get boxes.

Get the corner mounts as they fit a lot better. As for sound, I couldnt tell the difference.

Thanks for those pictures! I'm about 5' 10" so not terribly tall, but I'm not even sure if my seat will adjust forward or back lol. Its just an old farm truck and it fits well now when i sit in it so I haven't bothered trying to adjust it.

Where did you get those corner boxes at?

If you have any friends that work on sheet metal you could have them make some for you. Here's a couple of pics of the ones I built for some new 4 x 10 speakers. Painting them right now and then I'll install them. Mine have no opening around the edges. I built them to fill the entire corner opening.
