    Snap ring end goes toward the transmission. It is very vague in the service manual but that's what it shows and that's how I did mine.

    Yes it does right in the middle of the top cover. My video series on my YouTube channel "Geb Built" shows it in the "SM465 Sloppy Shifter Fix" video. Ill find it and post the link.

    I am thinking along the same lines as Georgeb, but I would also look at the gates themselves. Can you post a pic of the end of your shifter?
