Steering shaft removal

Can the steering shaft be removed without unbolting the steering column or steering box? I just swapped my column and buttoned it up and wouldn't you know I score an xj shaft the next day.

Yeah, it’s collapsible. You may have to help it a little bit, but it shouldn’t put up much of a fight.

Cool. Was hoping I didn't have to melt any plastic inserts out like the xj one.

I just did the swap on mine yesterday. The rag joint was so bad removal was easy.

I only use oil based enamel. Bead blast and wipe clean with acetone. Takes a good 24 he to cure but it will last forever. If it comes out of a rattle can it won't last. I paint all my non factory parts red.
