The only concern I have is the SES light vs. choke light. Everything else should be the same.

Well, the only major thing that changed there at the end was they went from a mechanical to an electrical speedometer, and they changed from a VSS buffer behind the cluster to an actual speed sensor/DRAC module like newer vehicles have. I want to say that happened in '90. If your new one has the cable port and the little green box on the back, you should be good in that respect.

Does it have a plug in for it and a little bolt hole to hold it down?

Has the spot to mount it but no terminals it does have the trip meter so I know it's the newer style

Gotcha. The pins the buffer plugs into are recessed, and then part of the connector is flush with that hole and you just put the little bolt in. It sounds like you'll need to buy a new buffer if I'm understanding everything correctly. I believe they added the trip odometer in 1988, and if I've got all my ducks in a row, it should work fine.
